DAY1 THE EPIC FINALE Throughout the year, there were many competitions held between the FY/SY/TY and the 10th of February was the last day for the these competitions where we had 4 of them. This is the reason why we would like to refer to this day as the epic finale. Simultaneously, we were getting prepared for the next day's main event. All the students from FY/SY/TY were really excited to participate in the competitions held. The first competition held was the "GEOLOGICAL QUIZ" in which the SY won compressively. The second competition held was kind of the highlight of the day which was the "GEOLOGICAL TREAUSRE HUNT".  Teams from fy, sy and ty receiving instructions for the event treasure hunt Students in action during treasure hunt Students trying to unlock the code du

Episode 2: Going beyond the visible horizon: In a candid chat with Mr. Assif Olivero Ferrao, our alumni pursuing higher studies abroad.

Name: Assif Olivero Ferrao, 2019 Batch: 2019 Course:  Applied Environmental Geology.  Current Institute:  University College Cork (UCC). Ireland. Mr. Assif Ferrao, Second from left 1     What made you choose Geology? I got inspired by a talk given to us in my 11 th standard, where one lecturer from NCAOR said that the real superheroes of the world are not any politician or spiderman or a famous athlete but the real superheroes are geologists, where we actually know, how to save the earth and what actions to take. I developed a strong affinity for the subject ever since. Did you always wanted to study abroad? Why? In which semester of your under-graduate course did you apply for it? No, I didn’t always want to study abroad but as I did my research on the opportunities and scope of the field I wanted to carry out, I decided to study abroad. I started searching and getting the documents ready before the 5 th semester started. How did you decide

Internship: Mr. Shahbaz Nandihalli shares his experience at Dip Direction, Curchorem Goa

Dip Direction is a Geotechnical services company, founded in 2013 in Goa, India. The company has business interest in Borewell drilling, Geophysical Exploration, Engineered Water Solutions and Mines & Minerals. Electrical resistivity survey (CRM AUT0-C) I wanted to intern with a very flexible company dealing with ground water exploration in Goa and neighbouring states. Also, to grab the opportunity of gaining experience of class study and practical knowledge/ physically working and studying an area suitable for drilling.  We first had an introductory session. During our internship we first had class teaching in which we cleared our doubts, basics were cleared, later all the concepts of exploration and mechanisms were explained which was helpful in field, we also learnt how to properly use Clinometer and Brunton compass. In these internships we covered Theory, field visit, mine visit, geophysical exploration of ground water, electrical resistivity

New logo of the Department of Geology designed by Samuel Afonso (TyBsc) and Jeremy Afonso. As the president of the 'Club Nebulites' I had a dream to design a logo for the 'Geology Department'. With due permission from the faculty, I worked with my cousin Jeremy Afonso using the Coral draw design software selecting the scheme and designed the logo and with the approval of the faculty my dream turned into reality. The logo was printed on a vinyl board and was inaugurated on 6th August 2019 at the hands of our very own HOD Mr Harish Nadkarni and Rtd scientist Dr Antonio Mascarenhas at the induction ceremony. I participated for a competition organised by the geological society of Goa at a student's conference called Geosphere on the 26 of February 2020. I wasn't initially supposed to participate but later was encouraged by ma'am Swati as it would be a good experience. I had to present a topic for 5 minutes following which there was a 2 minute slot for questions. The topic I chose was Climate Change as it is a major issue in our world today that cannot be addressed enough. I spoke about the theories on how climate change is said to occur and what made the scientists working on it come to these conclusions. I concluded my presentation addressing how humans have severely impacted the process of climate change. I secured the first place for my presentation and received a trophy, certificates and a cash prize from the GSG. The   event was extremely well organised and had very highly qualified judges for the competition. The event also consisted of lectures given by various p
