Department of Geology to launch a new community driven project titled "Geology of Goa"

Geology of Goa has been a subject of intense study during the past, several noted geologist have worked and mapped the geological resources of Goa. There is a vast literature already published on the subject with beautiful description and a few photographs of the outcrops. It is noted that most of the work was done several decades earlier when the use of technology such as GIS was not very widespread as it is today. Any newcomer who wishes to study these outcrops almost certainly has to painstakingly scan the terrain using only the descriptions and guidance of fellow colleagues to find the locations of outcrops given in the literature. This process is tedious and unnecessary if the location of these stratotypes are geotagged and stored in a database. This will allow the future geologists to save a lot of their precious time to focus on the analysis of their study rather than data gathering.
