Workshop on Geophysical Methods for Groundwater exploration using Resistivity Method held on 21/12/2020

The Department of Geology organized a one day workshop on Geophysical Methods for Groundwater Exploration Using Resistivity Method for the students of SyBSc, Groundwater and Hydrogeology course under DBT star scheme. The objective of the workshop was to cover the theory and practical aspects of geophysical exploration using resistivity meter and to give them an experience of field data collection and interpretation. The workshop was held on 21/12/2020, the resource person for the workshop was Mr. Smitesh Talawadekar, Proprietor and Managing Director of Terra Hydrotech Solutions, which is a geophysical exploration, water management and rainwater harvesting solutions service provider company based in Vasco, Goa. Role of Exploration Geologist: Student-Expert cum Alumni Interactive Session

  The Department of Geology organized a Student- Expert cum alumni interactive session on the topic “Role of Exploration Geologist”. The speakers were Vikas Peeru, Deputy Manager Exploration, Vedanta Ltd. and Santosh Ghadi, Deputy Manager Mine Planning, Vedanta Ltd. The session was organized on 11/12/2020 from 9.30 am to 12.00 pm    in online mode. The session began with a brief introduction of both the speakers by Prof Swati Ghadi. The first session was conducted by Mr Vikas Peeru who gave a deep insight into the exploratory phase of mining, explaining legal terms like Reconnaissance permit and Mining lease. Demonstration of Geological modelling (wire-framing of solids) This was followed by a software demonstration on how geologists build geological model of the ore body using borehole data and how planning of next phase of drilling boreholes is done to build a complete model.  He also shared his field experience of working in various projects in Liberia and discussed the challenges
