The Department of Geology organized a
Student- Expert cum alumni interactive session on the topic “Role of Exploration
Geologist”. The speakers were Vikas Peeru, Deputy Manager Exploration, Vedanta
Ltd. and Santosh Ghadi, Deputy Manager Mine Planning, Vedanta Ltd. The session
was organized on 11/12/2020 from 9.30 am to 12.00 pm in online mode.
The session began with a brief
introduction of both the speakers by Prof Swati Ghadi. The first session was
conducted by Mr Vikas Peeru who gave a deep insight into the exploratory phase
of mining, explaining legal terms like Reconnaissance
permit and Mining lease.
Demonstration of
Geological modelling (wire-framing of solids)
This was followed by a software
demonstration on how geologists build geological model of the ore body using
borehole data and how planning of next phase of drilling boreholes is done to
build a complete model. He also shared
his field experience of working in various projects in Liberia and discussed
the challenges faced by a typical exploration geologist.
