What is the scope in the field of Hydrogeology?

For a geologist to become a businessman there is a lot of financial input to invest in this kind of business. Plus, you need a list of clients with you that can fulfil your investment. This is very hard when you are new as nobody will recognize you without having any history of work, so how will a client believe in you? building up the business takes some time and lots of hard work and smart work. One can be successful when one knows the work. Once you are experienced in the survey then one can go for drilling. One should bear in mind that he/she should generate returns to fulfil their investment to cope up with the personal payments. In terms of business, it is demanding. As the need for water will always increase so will be the requirement of a borewell. Therefore, to search for water, the role of a geologist will always increase. The work of a geologist is very important for example if there is a case where there is a need for a borewell to be built in an area. Finding a suitable location for borewell is a challenging job hence a geologist is necessary. The geologist should have excellent skills of interpretation since if the interpretation goes wrong, nobody will call you again as they will lose their money. In today’s generation what is lacking is that they want fast money and fast successes. There is no shortcut to success and if there is then the tenure is also short and you won’t be knowing the value of hard-earned money and will also not spend it carefully.

What is the Advice you would like to give for beginners?

Peoples mentality is if they work in the oil industry, they’ll get good money, the mentality should be if you are good enough you will make money anywhere. If you know your worth in that field you should go for it. How and where you will use your skillset also matters. You might know everything but should know where to use what.

What suggestion you would like to give to young geologists?

For the student who is studying BSc and MSc, this is the time to get maximum exposer. Don’t miss the opportunity. Try to learn your basics and improve your practical knowledge. When basics are not clear you won’t know the application. For example for identification of rock specimen or mineral, if you don’t know the identification of the mineral you can’t identify the rock. Make your basics strong. This will help you in the future.
