INSTALLATION CEREMONY OF THE NEBULITES CLUB AND GUEST LECTURE BY DR. SOHINI GANGULY ON THE TOPIC “MAGMATISM AND CRUST GENERATION IN DIVERSE TECTONIC REGIMES”.

The installation ceremony of the Nebulites Club committee members for academic year 2017-2018 was held on 22nd September, 2017. The function was held in the lower auditorium. Various colleges were invited to attend the same. The function was compered by class representative of Nebulites club Miss. Vidiksha Fernandes. The ceremony started by welcoming the guests with flowers, Followed by assigning of badges to each of the newly elected committee members for the year 2017-2018 by the HOD, Prof. Harish Nadkarni. Later HOD, Prof. Harish Nadkarni, addressed the gathering.

 Asst. Prof. Malcolm Afonso briefed the audience about the ‘’Role of Alumni in The Upliftment of The Department’’. The Departmental Newsletter Geos Volume VI Issue I was released with a theme focused on the Alumni of our Department. The Department of Geology also launched its own Blog. The secretary of Nebulites Club Miss. Saili Vernekar presented last year’s annual Report. This was followed by a speech delivered by the newly appointed Nebulites Club president, Mr. Davino Desouza.


Miss. Saili Vernekar, Secretary, Nebulites Club presented the New Club planner for the year 2017-2018. Vice- president, Mr. Dawood Shaikh introduced the guest speaker for the day, Dr. Sohini Ganguly, Asst. Professor, Department of Earth Science, Goa University. Dr. Sohini Ganguly delivered a lecture on the topic “Magmatism and Crust Generation in Diverse Tectonic Regimes”. It was very informative talk which gave the students an understanding of the various processes involved in crustal generation. Asst. Prof. Malcolm Afonso presented a memento to Dr. Sohini Ganguly as token of love. Lastly the function ended with vote of thanks by class representative of Nebulites club Miss. Vidiksha Fernandes. And it goes without saying, beautiful pictures were clicked to remind us of this wonderful gathering for the years to come.

WORKSHOP ON GIS

The Department of Geology organized a two day GIS workshop entitled “Learn to create your first map”. The workshop was held on 23 rd and 24 th of January 2018. The workshop was conducted by Assistant Professor Malcolm Afonso. Students of S.Y.Bsc and T.Y.Bsc from the Department of Geology participated in the workshop. The workshop was designed with a focus on imparting basic knowledge of GIS using two of the major open source GIS platforms which are QGIS and Google Earth Pro. Induction of the committee of Club Nebulites by the Geology Department

On 6 th August 2019, the Department of Geology - Parvatibai Chowgule College of Arts and Science – conducted the Induction of the Club Nebulites Committee. Our chief guests of honour Dr. Antonio Mascarenhas, a retired scientist from NIO, and Mr. Abhijeet Prabhudessai, member of the NGO – Rainbow Warriors, were warmly welcomed. Dr. Antonio Mascarenhas and Sir. Harish Nadkarni, HOD of the Department unveiled and inaugurated the new department logo designed by Samuel Afonso from TY BSc Geology and his cousin Jeremy Afonso which symbolises a new beginning and vision for the Department followed by recognition of the committee members by displaying their achievements and distributing their respective badges. Visit ONGC Ipshem at Betul, Goa on 24th July 2019

As part of the curriculum in Petroleum Geology, the TYBSc geology students, accompanied by Asst. Prof. Mrs Swati Ghadi visited ONGC IPSHEM at Betul, Goa on   24th July 2019, for getting exposure to the work environment associated with the petroleum Industry. The ONGC unit at Betul is an I nstitute for P etroleum S afety, H ealth and E nvironment M anagement and conducts various safety training programmes for employees working on site. They also carry out Research and Development for environmental protection. The visit was organized under  DBT  Star College Scheme.
